Can this be disassembled to set one row to one color? And is it easy to clean if it got greasy while in a kitchen? Is the frame plastic & rods metal?

Probably can't easily disassemble, it's plastic and would probably crack/break. Since its plastic with metal rods, I think it's be fine in the kitchen and could easily wiped down. The red/white beads helps count by 5s and recognize number patterns easier than if they were all the same color. If you want all one color, get a Melissa and Doug one.
