Viper Remote Start - Nice!
I wanted a remote start for my winters here in New England. My car is parked outside and it gets quite chilly since I'm orignally from SoCal. I wanted to get the car warm for my kids when I took them to school, mainly. I got a little spoiled too. After looking at the different types and reading the reviews, Viper seemed to be pretty darn good and cost effective (especially re-manufactured ones $100 vice $350). The re-manufactured ones come with just the unit and pieces. No directions but still warranteed. There a lot of videos online and you can do a search of your vehicle for schematics. Either way the videos expain which are the important wires and what exactly you are looking for, although they are not step by step. So it would be best to know something about electricity or car electronics. If not, maybe find a place that can install them for you. Still saving money as you bought a re-manufactured one (less than half the cost). I went with Viper 5301 because for a few more dollars I can have 2-way comms. I wanted to know if my car was started from my work (big parking lot - hard to see). My car is not a fancy one or have a lot of bells and whistles, so I didn't need the alarm style. Because my car is older, I also did not need the bypass relay either. This does not come with a bypass relay because it is generic and there are different bypass's for your nicer cars which are sold separately. So you may incur an additional cost if you need a bypass. Should be able to determine with a little research. All in all, it works great. It is also SmartStart compatible, so in the future I can get a smartphone and download an app for it. Another reason why I didn't need the fancy remote.

Works perfectly!
I don't know how (or why!) I ever lived without a remote starter. The Viper 5301 has VERY impressive range, and the 2-way feature is possibly the best part. Battery life is shockingly good, I am still on the original battery even several months after install. I did, however, grab some replacement batteries off Amazon for less than $5 for 5 of them. Good to keep some on-hand, just in case.

buttons
I'm constantly accidentally starting my car. The buttons are super sensitive and just waking around with the keys in my pocket is enough to start the car

Had to share my experience
May want to think twice about purchasing this remote start.Had mine for a year now, the hardware has worked fine, but there are numerous design problems;1. Most people use these in cold weather climates. The FOB keys are too close together so that you cannot push them with gloves on without hitting other keys at the same time.2. The battery cover on back does not lock in well and falls off frequently. We've had this problem with both our FOB's, even lost the back cover to one since we didn't see where it fell off at.3. Changing the battery is a joke. To slide the back cover off, you must hold on to the front which means hitting all the keys on front at the same time. If the battery's completely dead, no big deal, but the auto-start key will "die" before the "unlock/lock" keys so this is when we change our battery. So as your trying to change your battery, you have all kind of random key noises screaming at you all at once, annoying!Had I known then what I know now about it, I would not have bought this particular one. They are not inexpensive to have installed.Hope this helps someone else avoid my problems:)

Good range. Good Product.
A product such as this one the install is half as important as the product is itself. I had the product installed by a friend of mine who does it for a living. I watched him do it, the whole time seeing where I would have gotten hung up and frustrated. I must say watching him spend 1 hour hooking it up while drinking a few beers was much better then myself spending 8+ hours and doing a half as good a job. And I have done 10 or 15 car audio installs! Now the remote is good stuff. I really like that it is two-way but doesn't have an LCD screen. Maybe there is a nice one out there, but the LCD ones look cheesy to me. This one looks classy and can still be hooked up to an iPhone or Android if I pickup a additional module. My only gripe is the battery situation. The two way takes 6v by two batteries in series, while the one way remote takes 1 3v battery. That and the batteries die to quickly, and I blame the remote and software for that. There are too many bells, and chimes, and dings and alerts that are killing the battery in the remote.

Great range
I bought this product for my girlfriends car and it works just as described. Lots of options if you want them installed and you can start it with your smart phone if you want to pay for the module and monthly access fee.

Great Product
This is a great product. I am not a professional installer. I read up a lot and got wiring diagrams with a decent installation guide. Many things were missing and I had to figure things out on my own. BUT once I figured it out, I was impressed of how little actually needed to be connected. This Viper is amazing with great range.
