Be aware of duplicate covers
Was a duplicate of another same book on Amazon. This was 33.00 while another same copy was 19.95. Contacted seller but won’t take book back. Both books were copyright 2018, and only differences were the front hard cover design. Otherwise books are good as am history buff, and books have detailed maps and info on important dates in human civilization.

Don't Bother
This has to be the worse History of the World in maps available. My very old copy of the Times History of the World, or my Penguin Atlas of World History, even some really old compendiums produced in the 1950s (!) are better. There are huge gaps that almost ignore that the Cold War has been over for more than 20 years (not something you expect with recent publications), yet other important elements in European history are also ignored. In the book's Medieval section, for instance, there is no mention of the largest state in Europe at the time, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (or later, of its Partitions). The Ottoman expansion into Europe (which has so coloured modern European history, particularly in the Balkans and Central Europe) is ignored, the expansion of Sweden and the subsequent rivalry with Russia might as well never have happened and there is no coverage of the Hanseatic League or growth of Prussia. And that is just one section of the book. I couldn't believe the glaring gaps (even in more recent history) and errors that permeate the book. It is poor, very poor, and two stars are being too generous.

Excellent value History of the World
This History is a clone of the Smithsonian History of the World Map by Map.Same production team, same Foreword by Peter Snow, same printing in Malaysia. The Smithsonian version also includes a 78-page Timeline which is totally engrossing in its own right.Hence the Read-Now pages are almost exactly the same, except for outside covers. The Smithsonian with extra Timeline sells for £35.50 (on Amazon) whereas this 78 page shorter version sells for £17 (on Amazon today, and on 4th November I was able to buy D-K version for only £10.99).So this D-K version can be excellent value, but you need to watch the price you pay!

14 year old obsessed with this book
Luxurious edition that, despite being read and pored over every day by a 14 year old, looks like new after months. The full colour, glossy pages are stunning. The text is arranged in such a way that information is captured in snippets not in paragraphs after paragraphs of essay.I love everything about this book, which has been dubbed by my son as ‘the best thing you ever bought for me’.

Could be clearer and prettier
It’s not a bad book. But for the purposes I got it for, I would have preferred nicest and more colourful pictures, that help make things clearer. Also a somewhat more simple and clear description of thing would be better. For me there is just too much information.

A bit Heavy
Very pleased with this. Interesting with loads of info within. Got it as a present for my wife, as she loves to look at and study historical maps. She really likes it, and her only complaint is it's a bit heavy in weight, lol. It's a big book, but an excellent addition to our household.
