Outstanding Book for All Christians
Fr Camelli has done an exceptional job in presenting the ways the Evil One uses our common human frailties and struggles to derail us on our journey to God. He presents four distinct categories of oppression used by the devil: Deception; Division; Diversion; and Discouragement and offers corresponding responses to thwart Satan's efforts. He is carefull not to attribute every difficulty that all or any if us encounter in life to the devil but shows how those difficulties are manipulated and used to sabotage our efforts to grow in Holiness. Fr Camelli packs a strong punch in this relatively short book and the latter half of it is especially meaty. All in all this is well worth the read and a re-read in near future. This is the second book of Fr Camelli that I've read and find his clarity of thinking, succinctness in writing along with evidence of pastoral skill make him an outstanding author for those on a serious spiritual journey.

An excellent book, one I would recommend for all Catholics ...
An excellent book, one I would recommend for all Catholics / Christians. Why? Cameli writes in a most accessible and very perceptive way to describe the nature of the devils attacks on us. So often incredibly subtle and almost unremarkable - yet the consequences potentially so dire. There is nothing hysterical or sensational about this book which in my opinion makes it more compelling. I would hazard a guess that even non Christians would find his descriptions of the devils activity interesting, due to his great insight into the nature of being human. Whilst the essence of the book is about describing the multitude of ways we can be drawn away from our path to God - the book is full of hope, as Cameli cites much guidance about how to counteract and resist Satan, in his quest to drag us into the abyss with him.

Recognizing & overcoming evil.
...to be read slowly & attentively applied to one's past, present &, without fear, our future; maintaining one's remaining in the state of grace or its restoration whenever we fall. I'm speaking, especially, to all my brothers & sisters in the Catholic faith, who possess all the Church's sacraments with much gratitude. No one today, is being spared the attacks of all that constitutes evil throughout our world.

Conscience
The book provided helpful tips for recognizing the evil that is present in our everyday lives. Deception, lies, division, and diversions vs. love and truth are explained well and help one recognize them more easily and aid in living a good life.

Don't be unnerved by the title
There are plenty of people who simply will not pick up a title with the word Devil in it. It's understandable given the way some people throw the language around like they are living in hell already, or too enamored of the cartoon version hanging over the shoulder. But they are missing out on a wonderful short book on the subtleties of spiritual warfare...basically, how the Evil One commonly tempts us to bigger and worse things. If you've read The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, this is that book (in many ways) presented as a spiritual and theological reflection. This is very well written and easy to read--no need for an advanced theology degree--and of help to both spiritual directors and those who take their faith life seriously. Definitely recommended.

Nothing supernatural about it
This book is life changing. The works of the devil are deception, division, diversion, and discouragement. Can anyone alive find themselves free from the sin that results? Fr. Cameli uses language like devil and evil in a way that can be uncomfortable. It's not flashy or dramatic. It's true. Some parts are hard to read when you see yourself and how you've fallen into the trap of the devil. This book, both spiritual and pastoral, reaches out a hand to lift us up when we've fallen; it reassures us that it's never to late to turn back to God! It's a liberating read.

Clear, concise, informative.
I recommend it highly! I'm a Catholic layman deliverance counselor. This book is everything and more that I needed and I recommend that all my clients, Catholic or not, buy it and read it often. It's a lifeboat for them.

Opened my mind to new thoughts
Excellent book with many insights. Have to re-read now and again to fully grasp it, but made me think about how the devil is affecting us, even when we think we are being spiritually good.

Awesome insight into how evil works and how to respond.
I especially liked how the book reveals how evil works, beginning with the lie, then division among us followed by confusion and depression, very reminiscent of the pandemic scenario!I didn’t like that I believe most people will not invest the time to “know thy enemy”!

An excellent and informative book
An excellent and informative book. The topic is dealt with peacefully and with constant references to the Bible and the experiences of Saints who also experienced the spiritual challenges we face today and will no doubt, face in the future. The chapter on discouragement and despair was very encouraging, explaining how we can be led into being discouraged and despair, the effects it can have on both ourselves and even our communities and throughout referring to the Bible and seeking God's help. I found that the way the book was written enabled me to read and meditate without being distracted by negative emotions, increase my understanding and greatly helped. Notwithstanding the title, this is a book of hope. This book is a blessing and I recommend it highly.

Excellent. The four key areas of deception
Excellent. The four key areas of deception, division, diversion and discouragement (the ordinary works of the devil in our lives) are revealed and exposed here. A must read for Christians with plenty of bible references.
