Penta (Penta Lanceolate) is a perennial shrub that is also known as Egyptian star for its many 5 pointed flowers. This Penta has violet flowers but there are many color varieties of Penta from pink, red, white, and lavender flower. They bloom from late spring through early fall and they make a splendid addition to a butterfly garden or southern landscape. In colder climates, they are used as annuals in ers or as houses that will flower indoors in late spring and summer with proper care. They prefer bright direct light and partial shade and can reach 6' tall and 3' wide in Zones 9 to 11. In a pot, they should be watered when the top 1 to 2" inches of soil are dry. During the growing and flowering season feed monthly with a little bit of weak liquid fertilizer.
