These are one of those books I wished I had been reading when i was a kid. An amazing book to help you listen better, and if you listen better, you learn more. and if you learn more, you EARN more. to much to talk about in one review. If you are in a area where you need to interact with people BUY THIS BOOK.

Excellent
I was researching the topic and this book was ideal for the purpose. It is clearly written with lots of good examples and activities to try. It covers the basic listening skills, barriers to listening, how to get others to listen to you, and how to listen to yourself. Excellent.

Teaches practical methods in effective speaking - nothing else!
Although the concepts explained in this book will without a doubt make you a better listener, true listening requires quite a bit more that is offered in this textbook. True listening requires emotional maturity, patience, and an open mind - things that frankly, have to be in place before true listening can be achieved. If on the other hand you already possess the characteristics of an empathetic and patient person, then you probably already listen well to begin with and don't need this book anyway.. Still, there is knowledge to be gained from reading this and the skills taught and discussed within the chapters are applicable in everyday situations - at least to the extend that you will give the speaker the impression that you truly know how to listen.

Get a Professional Reader Please
This book has excellent content and Madelyn has done a great job writing it. HOWEVER, Madelyn is NOT a good reader for audiobooks. I am on the west coast and, if I had not been advised to listen to the book, I would not have finished it. So much is lost by the distraction of Madelyn's accent, cutting off words, and her voice quality, which sounds like she is short of breath or wheezing. Madelyn, spend the money for a professional reader. This book needs to be read/listened to and appreciated by many many people. Thank you for your contribution, so please take the next step to a Professional reader.

An awesome guide to being a more effective listener
I read this book as part of a graduate school program. It was absolutely relevant to my daily work life and provided numerous tools to help me improve my listening skills and become a more effective leader.

Old and still effective
If you need to learn how to better listen with easy to understand mechanics, then this old book is what you are looking. I bought also the paper version due to few exercises and test proposed in the book which do not work (for me) in the digital book.

Good for Learning About Ourselves.
The main takeaway from this book for me was the Going Somewhere/ Going Nowhere cycle. Not necessarily about listening to others, but rather ourselves. For example, what language do you use when you think things through? Words like , ‘ I must, I should, What will others think?’ We are asked to look at our beliefs behind what we say to ourselves.I have read better, more concise books on listening to others, though.
