Great gift for a college student.
My grandson claims he knows how to cook, but his skills are limited by how quickly he can microwave or boil. This book is high on pictures and low on recipe ingredients. Excellent job to the author.

Perfect for the young person on their own for the first time.
I purchased this as a graduation gift for my eldest grandson who will be on his own for the first time. I thought I'd glance through it first and ended up making several of the recipes myself. They were easy and delicious, so I can personally attest to the usefulness of this book for a young person just starting out on their own.

If you are buying this for your college student, you might want to try some of the recipes first
I bought this for my college student to try and get him to stop going thru the drive-thru. I was intrigued by the empty jar peanut noodles. I was hungry and gave it a try. First off, this one particular recipe is way off in the proportions and is kind of bland. The sauce recipe doesn't make nearly enough sauce for the noodles. I get that the author is trying to make it as simple as possible and using ingredients that college students will have but it really needed tweeking. That said, I think it's a good starter cookbook. If you are getting this for your student, maybe try some of the recipes yourself and make notes for them to make it taste more like something mom would make. It's what I did. Also, to make it easier for students I would suggest using jarred spices like garlic powder, onion powder, and refrigerated tubes of ingredients like ginger paste, cilantro, basil, etc. These things keep for a long time in the fridge. All in all, I like the cookbook. I think it is simple and easy to understand. But don't be surprised if they call and ask cooking advice.

Not just for when you don’t know what you’re doing
When I first went out on my own I didn’t know how to cook anything. Going to school, working part and full time and trying to have a life left no time to decipher traditional cookbooks (mirepoix, really?! I didn’t know the difference between boil and simmer)I so wish this book was around way back then. This should be on everyone’s bookshelf!Good, solid, easy to follow recipes that even after having raised a family and fed what felt like an army I still learned some new tricksBuy this book!

Perfect for college-age previously not interested in cooking
Got this book for my college-age son and told him he would be responsible for shopping and preparing one meal each weekend. Dinners have been enjoyed by the whole family!

This book is completely useless
I tried making several recipes in here and none of them came together like they were supposed to despite me following the instructions to the letter.Tater tot waffle grilled cheese? the tots fell apart the moment I tried to pull them off the waffle iron.Balls of energy? They crumbled into pieces when I tried to roll them into ballsPizza toast? bland, unsatisfying, and frankly kinda disgusting.Don't believe the positive reviews. This is NOT a good cookbook, it's just a bunch of filler 'life hack' recipes with absolutely no substance to them. You want a simple cook book? There's far better options.

Favourite cookbook for a beginner
I purchased other college student cookbooks along with this one but this is definitely the best one. I don't have any cooking expertise so I loved how the book managed to explain everything in a way that made sense. The visuals are fantastic and I'd recommended this book for anyone. It has things for the starter cook as well as unique twists to recipes(I.e. tater tot grilled cheese) that can also be of interest to a more experienced cook.

.
I purchased this for my friend. The recipes seem very meh and boring and she still has not made anything out of it. I think 1 recipe stood out of the whole book and I love cooking.
