What a beautiful thing is the The Fellow Tally Scale! It measures in grams or oz, stops and starts a timer, zeroes or "tare weights" the scale to accommodate different measuring containers...dang, it has EVERYTHING. Even an "on-off" button.Oh wait. So does my Apexstone, which I bought two years ago for around $15. But the Fellow costs $185! It's so...expensive! and it has a GLASS top so you could BREAK it if you didn't handle it with the reverence worthy of an overpriced piece of hardware! And all I have is a dependable coffee scale/timer to work with every morning, weighed out to the 1/10 of a gram for both bean and water, then timed for both my bloom and my pour! And it has an auto shut-off if I forget to power it down. But, what am I supposed to do with all this extra cash?!Yes, my Apexstone scale occasionally gives weird readings. And you know what? Turn it off and on, and reweigh. What a concept! I've never not been able to weigh my coffee in the am due to scale inaccuracy, and no one EVER has said my coffee would taste better if I had spent more on a timer/scale.Folks, you can't go wrong with this nice little unit. Dependable, the batteries last a long time, it's so easy to use my 2-year old helps with it in the am, it's easy to clean, and it doesn't take up much space. It DOES however leave my wallet fat, which causes me all kinds of stress. "What ridiculously overpriced device could I buy INSTEAD of a $200 coffee scale?" Oh, how the rich must suffer!

Other reviews point out that there is a 1 to 2 second delay in the display, which is true, but it's totally fine for pour over. I got used to it almost immediately. Assuming you are using a gooseneck kettle, your flow rate is fairly slow and consistent. You will naturally be able to predict 1 or 2 seconds in advance when to stop pouring. And if you are a few grams over or under on a pour, that's really not going to matter. Espresso, I assume, requires more precision, so this isn't probably great for espresso. But I've used this for my daily pour over coffee for over 3 years. It's simple, effective, compact, attractive, and cost me less than a bag of beans. The silicone nonslip surface works great and is easy to clean. If you want to spend a bunch of money on pour over coffee gear, you'd be wiser putting it toward a nice burr grinder.

The media could not be loaded. Oddly the packing had a 4 inch slit in it on arrival but the box was fine. there was a scratch on the plastic cover which is probably not related to the cut as it didn’t go through the box. the rubber mat for the top of the scale is warped…The scale is easy to operate, the function buttons are simple and work well. There can be a gram or two difference when measuring the same item but when I did the video to illustrate this is was fine😌. It will definitely work well enough to help me refine my perfect afternoon Bialetti pot cup of coffee. I will probably use it for cooking but be skeptical with small measurements. I may stop using the rubber mat, because maybe “rocking around” on it is part of the inconsistency.

This is a really solid scale, with alot of nice features. It measures in grams, which I like, but it does take a moment to read the increases sometimes. Not like super long, but it can take a second or two to update to small gram differences. Once you start pouring water, it works just fine even with a small delay. The Tare function works pretty much perfectly. It is smaller than I expected, but I rather like that. It fits my 6 Cup Chemex just fine, and even comes with a tray that the scale fits in when not in use. The tray has a small cutout for emptying grounds out of on a corner, which is handy. For how cheap it is, I definitely recommend it, and I believe that I'll use it quite alot, even not for coffee. Oh, and it has a timer. It works. Can't seem to clear it's time, but cutting it on and off sets the time back to zero.

We mainly use this for weighing coffee for espresso (single dosing). The scale works, but has a couple of issues that would deter me from purchasing again:1. It does not always return to zero as expected. If you tare, weigh something (e.g. pour 17g of beans into the tray), then remove the weighed, it may show a value of up to a few grams when I expect it to show zero. This behavior makes me question the accuracy of the scale. It happens intermittently, but is concerning.2. The scale seems to "snap" to common round values. Like try weighing 100g of sugar, let's say. As you add the sugar, the scale will sort of jump to exactly 100g when it gets close. When adding or removing a small amount like half a gram, the indicated weight does not change. So if you need 100.4 grams of something, you'll have a hard time getting it exact.Last, the scale is sort of slow to react. I don't have a lot of experience with different scales so I can't say whether it is typical for this price range, but after adding something to be weighed, the indicated weight doesn't change for a second or so. When I'm trying to get exactly the right weight for coffee beans, this can be a little bit of an annoyance as you have to wait to see whether it will change.On the plus side, the scale seems reasonably well constructed. I like that it can weigh up to 3kg, so I can use it for small general kitchen use as well.
