Extremely Helpful
I am in the process of applying to a fire and rescue service so bought this book to help me with the interview process. It is written by someone in the FRS who is experienced in this area of the application process. It explains really well what is expected of you. It coaches you into thinking of what kind of answers you need and how to present them in the best way. It's well written and methodical in its process from start to finish. It turns out my interview will be using different sets of questions as it is a private fire service but this book has still been very helpful. If your applying for a local borough fire service this book is what you need.

Well written in plain English
Have recently applied for on-call fire fighter, although they've told me it's a formality I've got my head down and researched lots of insightful information that will impress them. This book is gold, thank you!edit: Just to update, I passed the interview. I can't thank you enough, this is life changing for me and means so much.

A must have!
CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH! This was recommended to me by a serving firefighter who used it and is now the only interview prep book that I would recommend, and I've tried several over the last few years. The way that it is written by the author is brilliant, updated every year so is always current, unlike others. Excellent exercises that build you up as you go. I was far far more prepared than I even realised I was, by using this book. Highly highly recommend for anyone serious about the fire service. This was my 3rd interview for the service, the 1st using this book, and I had a call to tell me I was successful today!Even if I was unsuccessful this time around, this book is that good that I would still recommend and would feel confident that with more time I would smash it next time with the help of this book.Thank you to the author!

Got into the Fire Service because of this book
I can not explain how much this book helped me to ace my Fire Service interview. Today I received my unconditional offer and contract. I still cant quite believe it and it was all thanks to the book. It was my first time applying and ive been waiting for the official offer before writing this review as it gives you that much of an advantage. It explained perfectly step by step the best ways to prepare and practice for your interview, it gives clear examples of a good answer and gives you a great insight into the mystery of the Fire Service interview and just what they are looking for from your answers. A massive thank you to Andy Smith for taking the time and effort to write this in order to give you an advantage over the rest of the applicants.

Fantastic book - helped me pass!
I started the process to join LFB in early 2019 after meeting them at a careers fair. It's been a career that I've thought about on and off for many years, but for some reason or another it was never quite the right time. I decided now is the right time and started the process. I started doing some research about what I could do to prepare myself as I'd heard the process was pretty intense and came across Andy's book, amongst a few others. Having read the reviews, I didn't hesitate to purchase and wow what a good decision that was. For most people, the fire brigade recruitment process is a completely different interview and assessment process to anything else you will go through professionally. My background is years in recruitment and sales, so am well used to group interviews and intimidating situations and even I found it very tough. Andy's book is fantastic is breaking down each part of the process and giving the reader information on what to expect, what and why they are assessing this way and also some real life practical exercises and tips you can do to prepare yourself. If you give yourself enough time to prep properly, you will be able to get through the various assessments. Andy is right in saying, if you start prepping a week before the assessment day, you have left it too late. I worked through this book and a variety of others over the course of several weeks and it definitely put me above other candidates on the day as I just had that bit more knowledge about what was coming. Is the process intimidating? Yes it is. But with the right prep outlined in this book you can do it. He has been there and done and seen it all, so his information is accurate. I actually decided to email Andy prior to my assessment day for some last minutes tips and advice and he got back to me promptly with some amazing information. I'm pleased to say that I passed all my assessments first time (apparently that doesn't happen often!) with the help of this book and I'm hopefully commencing training at the end of July. Honestly, if you want to join the fire brigade, you need this book. It's just that simple. Thank you Andy - you helped change my life!

Made the interview process sooooo much easier.
Andy, I want to thank you for such a great book. The tasks you set out really helped me to dig deep in finding my best experiences to use and BACON helped to flesh it out in a great story each time. I had my interview last week and I left the venue thinking i'd done really well. Today I got the call telling me I'd made it in. Thank you for putting this book together. It was a big help!Yours,FF Smith.

Good prep but not a magic book
This book deserves the good reviews it gets, although it left me a bit confused in parts. I also found that my interview was formatted in a way that I couldn't use my pre-prepared answers (and yes, I was using the correct framework). Certainly had some good tips and gave me more confidence to go into the interview, although I didn't pass and I won't be trying again.

Excellent tool to prepare
I recently passed the fire fighter interview and used this book to help me prepare for the interview. The service I applied for didn't end up using the PQA framework, they used the NFCC framework and the questions weren't based around giving a personal example: "tell me a time when you have.....". The questions were asking me how I'd deal with a specific, given scenario. The book was still a huge help however as it gave me a thorough understanding of what the service was looking for and I could refer back, in my head, to my own experiences relevant to the scenarios given. I'm due to start recruit training in March, thank you for producing the book, it was a big help!!
