You can easily extend the arm and attach wires if you have a soldering iron and a small scrap piece of thin stiff metal.

Because of the “lever-arm” effect. The precise answer to your question will require knowing the distance along the activation lever at which you apply the force. The geometry also changes slightly as the lever moves. So, to ensure reliable operation you’d want to avoid applying the force at the very tip of the lever.

And finally, the shape of the contact surface that applies the force is important because of friction and the small geometry change that occurs during operation.

If you’re concerned about activation requiring too great a force, I recommend a smooth sharply pointed shape of the contacting force applied a few mm from the lever arm’s end.

The best way to resolve your question is for you to set up a “jig” with the switch held in a vise or clamp and then you can use your knowledge of the geometry of your intended force application to experiment with what force reliably activates the switch, and you can measure it with the proper equipment.

Keep in mind, it’s a “snap” action. So actually measuring the activation force is non-trivial. But the “jig” will permit you to empirically determine the required force if it’s a critical parameter to you.

In my application the switch is activated by a short piece of #14 bare solid copper wire that is soldered to a “flat” on a #6 hex nut. The nut & wire ride along a screw that’s driven by a very small dc motor.

Therefore, my switch gets activated by a sliding force as the stiff wire travels along the lever surface towards the end of the activation lever. And the contact surface shape of the point of activation force is the smooth cylindrical surface of the short, stiff length of #14 copper wire.

I can tell you this: With this setup, not only is the switch activation force so tiny that it’s unnoticed by the small motor, but the point at which the traveling wire “trips” the switch as the #6 nut travels along the motor-driven screw is reliably the same. That was important in my application. Also, with my setup, so too is the point at which the switch opens the circuit as the force is removed.

Finally, you might benefit from changing the “shape” slightly of the activation lever. It’s a stiff flat surface by default. You can carefully put curvature to it if you bend the lever while carefully holding the lever with a small pliers so you do not change its shape at all near its contact with the switch’s little red mechanical point of contact with the activation lever.

You can even further reduce the force required to activate the switch by extending the length of the activation lever if your geometry permits that.
