Great for all ranges..
Whether you are a motivational speaker, have a podcast or are the lead singer in a rock band. This could be your microphone! Produces a GREAT sound for a disrespectfully small amount of money. Don’t know how they do it but shove your money in their hand and take off running!Great product at a good price point. One of the last true values out there. It’s a wired mic, that’s fine.. Don’t be prissy about it. Wireless is not a necessity for “all” people. Every mic I ever saw growing up was wired. If it was good enough for Bruce Springsteen and Martin Luther King, it’s good enough for you doing much less important things. Those of you who are audio engineers and can tell the ever so slight difference between mics and small incremental adjustments in sound levels. Then get the $750 mic that you’ve been looking at.For people that only have a small budget and aren’t recording or want it to be wireless or to do things with sound regular people don’t even know how to do. This is more than sufficient.I use mine with a broadcast speaker to share the Gospel of Christ, speaking and for singers to sing and the sound is warm and beautiful. Sounds like it cost 10x more than it did.

Good mic for cheap.
Great mics to use for practice and as spares for live performance. They are cheap but not built cheap. If you want top quality you may want to upgrade to the sm58 but for the price they are solid mics and get the job done. Not recommended for recording.

Good For First Time Mic's
The Shure SM48 Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone is a durable, budget-friendly microphone that performs well for live performances, speeches, and basic vocal recordings. While it lacks some of the high-end features of more expensive models, its build quality, clarity, and reliability make it a great choice for those on a budget.

Substantial handling noise, zipper broke on pouch during bench testing
It's not an SM58 by all means, but it will do for a general beat around PA system or karaoke application. It's very noisy on handling, but that's to be expected because it's less than half the price of a SM58. The sound seems ok for PA application, but there's a difference if you are considering its use for vocal performances for sound reinforcement. I'd skip this one and go with the SM58. Both seem to have about the same polar pattern, so that's comforting with the SM48. I'm still not sure what the difference is between the SM48 and the PGA48. I went with the SM48 to be safe. I don't know if that was the right decision. The pouch seems more cramped than the prior one i purchased, but that may be my perception. It didn't accommodate the mic, the mic clip, the foam wind screen and the shock mount. I forced it, and the zipper gave way right away.If Shure reads this review, i hope they'll send me a new pouch.

It's the "Bang for the buck" mic. Great for Youth bands - get the one WITHOUT the switch for them
The SM58 is legendary. The SM48 is the low-cost little brother. If you are on a budget or just want a decent, low-cost mic, why would you buy anything else but this mic at this price?I bought this to replace one I bought in 1996 for Live Sound Production! That's RUGGED.Has a little more handling noise than the SM58 but looks just like it. Sound is close in a Live Sound venue.I have SM 48s, 58s and Beta 58s in my inventory and use the 48 and 58 interchangeably if on a mic stand.Great for Youth (church) Bands where it won't get as much handling "respect" by budding musicians as a more expensive mic deserves. And at this price, if they DO use it to nail in nails, like the famous SM58, it's cheap to replace ;-).I bought 6 for our youth. This one is for my personal inventory and for use with HAM radio I specifically wanted a switch for use with an old Bogen PA where I am 100ft from the volume control and need to turn it off between announcements.

Great microphone for the price
The first SM48 I received from Amazon was defective. Amazon promptly sent me a replacement after I returned the bad one. Great job Amazon! I had my replacement the next day! The replacement is working great and it sounds pretty good for a budget mic. I never expected this mic to be a high end microphone at this price point but for what it is I'm pleased with the sound quality. I run it into an old Symetrix 528E voice processor and the two work well together. I do not need a preamp for the SM48 to drive the 528. This mic would be ideal for a church that needs good PA mics on a budget or even a band that's just starting out. Although there is a slight difference in sound quality between the SM48 and it's famous big brother the SM58, most people won't hear it on a PA system or in a live setting. If budget is not a concern, get the SM58, but if your money is tight but you need a decent mic, this will do the job nicely for you.

Great value!
SHURE SM58 is the gold standard, but this mic is not far behind. It was money well spent.

You know what your getting with the Shure SM48
There are so many reviews out there on this microphone that you already know what you're getting. I just wanted to add another 5 stars to the product. This mic is mainly used for outdoor events where many people will be handling the mic so needed something rugged and can take a few accidental falls here and there. And based on the product history, we know that the SM48 can handle that. Voice quality wasn't the main priority for me so didn't need to go with the 58 or higher. It's mainly used for talking. That said, I needed the on/off switch for easy way to turn off without always relying on the mixer to lower volume or mute. Oh, a reason why I chose this mic over the PGA58 (which a friend has) was the handling noise. When holding the mic with hand and passing to another person, the SM48 has less handling noise over the PGA58. Something to consider depending on how you use.
