Be careful
It's a simple product, so of course it does what it's supposed to do without much fuss. But a word of warning for the installation: be careful. My original plan was to rent an auger. But then I thought "meh, for a single use to drill a single hole like this, I'll just get an adapter so that an 8-in auger bit will turn from my hammer drill."I don't know what made me change my mind. But at the last minute, before I ordered that big auger bit, I decided to grab the spade hanging in my garage, and the shop vac... And see if I could excavate the whole that way.Man...This thing wants a 48-in hole. That's 4 ft. It's a pretty deep hole. And when I got down to 36 in... I ran into a PVC sewer pipe. Now I'm pretty sure that would just one dog, the 36-in latrine hole will be fine. But if I was going down into the ground with an auger bit, like I was planning to... With that sewer pipe down there being PVC...... That could have been a major screw up. As it was, the spade bounced off of the pipe and no harm done.Just understand that 48 in down is deep enough where you can run into all kind of things. If you're going to use an auger, make sure you have somebody come out and mark your yard. That is all

Gets the job done!
I installed this myself which is saying something considering I’m a 50 year old woman. The digging was made much easier after I used a 36” auger drill attachment to loosen the soil. I dug the hole with a post hole digger, put some drainage rocks in the bottom of the hole and set the dooly flush with the ground. Only problem I had was due to the soil where I live, it’s mostly sand and the hole kept caving in so I sunk a 8 inch drain pipe with holes drilled through sides down into the hole to shore up the walls. Next I added the water and the tablets that came with the product and it’s been working ever since! I haven’t had any problems with odor and each time I add a fresh pile of dog poop the previous one isn’t there. The product seems sturdy enough to do its job. I’m debating on moving it to a new location closer to my garden hose because it needs water to work properly and I believe it will hold up well if I do move itPretty cool product. I keep my garbage can in my garage and it doesn’t smell like dog crap since I started using this. I have one large golden retriever but she has friends over often who like to poop here so I use the product a lot.Hope this helps anyone who is on the fence deciding if they want to buy this, I’m glad I did!

Works well IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR GETTING INTO
Warning: this product requires more than "dig a hole, put this on top." To get it to the dimensions specified, you WILL need to use an auger. I cannot imagine doing it any other way. And it will take several hours getting everything set up. But once done, it is EPICALLY easier and more environmentally friendly than bagging and tossing (or burying as I was doing before). I was worried, as we get a lot of rainfall, that the pit would fill with water and overflow, but this did not occur. Overall, very happy I did this.Four stars because the plastic top (as almost every other review has mentioned) is a cheap piece of garbage. But if needed, I figure I could buy a second and just reinstall the top. Despite this, still gets four stars because it is such an upgrade in my life.

Brilliant!
I was skeptical, but this turned out to be the perfect solution to poop bags filled with stink waiting for the garbage collector. We live in FL. A day in the garbage with 90 degree weather and we had a stinky mess! YES, you need a post hole digger. YES, there is no smell. We have a sandy backyard so the water doesn’t stay in the hole very long, but no problem. We put a couple gallons of water in the hole about once a week and throw in an enzyme tablet. We have a small dog and have had this about 6 months. The hole has filled in a couple of feet (mostly from the sand caving in from the sides when spraying a hose), but the top is still secure. We’ll get years out of this hole.We have this in our side yard, in the shade and a lawn more doesn’t go over it, so it hasn’t faded or become brittle or cut up.All is good. I’m ordering another for my son’s backyard and his 2 large dogs. I don’t like picking up poop and bagging it when I dog sit, but I WILL drop it into this collection device! ***UPDATE*** 10/2024 We just moved this for the first time….filled the old hole with dirt from the new hole….all is good. My son hit the top of his with a lawnmower. The replacement top fit perfectly….He is on a second hole already…..2 large dogs. He doesn’t use the enzyme tablets or refill the water and it does not smell. I STILL give it 5 stars….. BTW my sister just bought one too!

So far so good!
This thing is awesome! We used to use a garbage can to pick up the dog poo and it was stinking up the garden area, especially when it was hot out.I dug this whole, which ended up being bigger than what they specified was necessary. I went about 4.5’ and made it about 18” wide at the bottom. Narrower at the top so the top part was wedged in. It’s pretty easy to action the top door and throw the poo in. I am concerned with the door breaking at some point (cross that bridge when we get there). So far no smell at all-that’s been a nice upgrade. We have 2 doodle dogs and an open yard for other animals to poo in. I put it all down there and no problems. If you want to get the poo out of the way and stop smelling it, this is an excellent route. It does require work digging a hole. We live by a river and have a lot of rocks, I just worked on it a little every day. Pro Tip- I used a hose to power wash the rocks out and widen the sides of the hole. Good luck:-)
