Q: The bulb just arrived and it works well in a dimmer controlled socket, but it did not work in a standard socket in another lamp. Any ideas why?

It should work just fine. Be sure it is a regular on off light and not a three level one. If a three level light then should work in high setting.

Q: Does this work with a dimmable smart outlet/plug?

If you try to use this bulb with a smart outlet plug-in dimmer, it's 50-50 that the bulb will flicker as you try to dim. This is an excellent bulb, but its dimmability functionality works best with a dimmmer specifically spec'd for LED bulbs. Yes - many non-LED dimmer WALL switches that are not 3-way will work with this bulb - but likely not those dimmers built into a plug-in outlet dimmer. BTW, LED bulbs controlled by multiple 3-way switches will flicker badly 95% of the time.

Q: Does it dim down to 0 watts?

no....it changes from narrow to wide angle, but not intensity
