Solid Piece of Steel That Presents Well
This trick is a solid piece of steel and is worth the extra money. The weight of the metal presents well and enables it to spin for a long time on a flat surface. Its secret is in slightly shifting the center of the weight on one side of the piece versus the other. It is almost imperceptible and is not noticeable when handed to audience members for a "look and feel" beforehand. Spin it counter-clockwise and it spins great. Spin it clockwise and it shakes, stops, then starts spinning counter-clockwise. It's a realistic and dramatic motion that can be easily exploited. Lastly, a warning: if you are someone who can really make objects move, DO NOT purchase this product. It will completely destroy your credibility if people one day find out this is a trick.

Finally, a METAL rattleback.
Been searching for a metal rattleback for a very long time. Plenty of wood and plastic ones on the market, but this one is both literally and figuratively METAL. Very happy with it. Has a very nice smooth finish to it and works exactly like a rattleback should.Other info:It rattles back in the counterclockwise direction. The product description on this Amazon listing AND the product card that comes with the product don't say what kind of metal this is made from. Some other reviewers say this is steel, but it is very lightweight and non-magnetic so I suspect it is aluminum. I could be wrong, but this is just for info.

It’s a chunk of metal that only spins one way
I bought a few items to entertain my nephew and turns out they are all made in China which to me is a negative…………. BUT I will say they all work just like advertised. The rattle back spins one direction but the other it rattles end to end and spins back the other direction 1.5-4 rotations on average depending on the surface. It travels well in a pocket also which was important when I visit the 3 year old nephew. I was amazed how well the tops are balanced, my record with the conventional top is 4 min 20 seconds, the round top once flipped upside down, about a min. All 3 were not what I consider cheap but I’ll admit they are quality and will last a long time. I’m curious what former life the metals had before turning into this rattle back and tops lol. All in all I’m happy with the purchase, although I would have preferred the rattle back to be more ornate on the flat section, would add more Pazazz to its presentation to children. BTW everything in this picture is in motion.

Fun Physics
Got this for my office to give people something to play with. Proven to be great conversation piece.

Very nice
Solid, heavy, and well made. There are others here on Amazon that are made of plastic (and are quite a bit cheaper) and though I haven't purchased any of them, given how this thing works I doubt something lightweight would work as well. This one is solid metal with some heft to it and it's easy to get it to do its thing. I bought it to show my two school-age kids and they were wowed by it. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Shipping was quick.

Works and feels great
Rattlebacks are really neat oddities, with their seeming disregard for (near-)symmetry and angular momentum. They're not hard to find in plastic, and those are cool to have around, to be sure, but surprisingly hard to find ones in metal, for that heavy, satisfying feel. Makes for a much more dignified desk toy or living-room hutch knickknack. This one is the "usual" size and shape (whatever that is), does its job of spinning and not-spinning and unspinning very well. I don't know what it's made of; the description says "Metal Alloy" so I assume it's not aluminum or something. I can say that it is _not_ magnetic, which I consider a good thing (so you can experiment with sapping its momentum while spinning with eddy currents.)

Sent Wrong Color, Scratched
I ordered the silver edition and they sent me the gold edition. Additionally it has a very large scratch right on the top. Also the quality of the "rattleback" doesn't seem very good. No matter how much or how little I spin it counterclockwise it shakes and basically comes to a stop instead of spinning back the other way.I bought this as a gift because I thought it would be super cool but now I am not so sure.

plastic ones work better
not sure if the shape is quite right or maybe the mass and metal but it does not work as well as the plastic ones. works ok on harder surfaces (glass or metal) but not on my wood desk/tables.
