I purchase several things on Amazon and was giving pretty in-depth reviews. From this point on, here's the new agenda…. if it works as advertised, is well made, meets or exceeds the description, is a value, and arrives in a fair amount of time, it will get a "star rating" equal to what my expectations were/are. If it doesn't meet these criteria, then I will most definitely and descriptively tell the short comings of the products and you as a consumer will not have to go through the trouble of buying the product without some background knowledge. If the sell pulls that item and relists under another description, I will put the exact same review on the seller's feedback page. Sellers have done this a couple of times in the past, and I was true to my word then as well as now. DR

Closest thing to 8 watts I could get was 5.3 on allowed frequencies, and I don’t know whether to be amused at misadvertised details, or the fact I don’t know if it would’ve been better to get a proper bf-f8hp. But other than that, it works flawless, withstood a critical blow to concrete, said hi to dogs, had a little sip of lake water, and has a Tourette spasm near microwaves now. Good product, just wish 8 watts was 8 on every frequency.

I was really excited to come home to my "Radio". When I picked up the package I realized that it was really light and it was really odd that it was very light. I opened it up and to my surprise there was nothing in the box except the lanyard for the radio. I will be filing a report and this will be fixed.

I’ve been a HAM for many years. I bought this radio to play with because it was so inexpensive. I have been surprised at the versatility of this radio. Baofeng has made a great radio and markets it in the nitch is designed for and at a very great price. I did try a longer, balanced antenna on the radio and was pleasantly surprised at reception and transmission range. Baofeng makes different versions of this radio but they all program the same way. I use CHERP to program and it covers all the different versions of the 5r and the UV8 also. I bought three versions of this radio and am pleased with all. GOOD BUY!
