Can I set this to be a silent alarm when the time is up?

No, the TWIST does not have an on/off switch for the alert. The TWIST has a continuous alert that lasts 1 minute. You are able to push the "pause" button to shorten the alert. If you're looking for a Time Timer that has the option of turning off the alert - please check out our Time Timer MOD (3.5" - similar size to the TWIST), Original (8 or 12") and PLUS models (7" x 5"). These three models all have the option to turn off the alert for sound sensitive environments.

Can i subtract minutes as it's counting down. I want to be able to add and take away minutes as my child earns or loses minutes on a tablet.

If the timer was already going, you would have to pause and reset. You can’t easily take away minutes as it’s operating like you can with the manual time timers you set. You can take away minutes before you actually press play though.

Does Twist always represent the starting time as a full disk when you hit play?

From the product description: The digital tick marks begin as a full disk regardless of the duration you set and move in a clockwise direction.

The continous alert, does it shut off after one minute?

To the best of my knowledge, no. I have to push the pause button to get it to shut off.
