I built a secret door bookcase following this guide book and the customer couldn’t have been happier!!

I wish I had read the poor reviews before I was duped into a "secret book."The secret of this book is where are the other pages. There are really only 20 pages in this "book." The rest of the pages are blank for notes or a sales page for the authors other books.Most of the pictures are so dark you can't see them well. In my copy they are almost black.There are no color pictures in the book! Only black and white, don't let the cover fool you like it did me.Furthermore the bookcase door is only held up by 4 hinges. A bookcase full of books would be quite heavy and this does not really talk about bracing the door to support all that weight.I was looking forward to this book so much and was even telling some friends about it. Big disappointment. Perhaps the author will come out with a 30 page book next time.

I bought this book for the spacing and size dimensions for an in swing door using normal hinges so I didn’t have to worry about making adjustments after I Hung the frame. My door is much smaller than the example. Super easy to make adjustments off the example to size as needed based on the rough opening. I used pine plywood and flooring underlayment to build the structure and bought iron on edging since I was going to paint it white anyway and it came out great for less than 100 bucks. Add extra screws after you air nail it together for a stronger structure. No latch details in the book, but their is enough clearance to place simple magnet cabinet closures at the top and bottom...I used a battery operated hidden key card cabinet closure and super happy...just had to notch the frame after it was in to provide clearance. yes the dimensions are out of order in the book...My advice don’t cut the bottom 2 shelf supports but cut the rest of the shelf supports as identified in the book. After that are all cut rearrange them to put the biggest set at the bottom. Lay them all out using a piece of scrap to get the spacing correct then cut your frame. It will be the right size to go into a rough opening. I finished the carpentry for this door in less than 4 hours and it worked perfect once I hung it. Pictures suck BTW

If you have a panic room, armory, walk in vault, or a secret man-cave that you want nobody to know about than this book is for you to the untrained eye it's just a shelf with junk on it but behind that shelf is a room that contains all that you hold dear and value.

Narrow in focus - no "great ideas" presented - the author doesn't even deal with the exposed plywood edges. This will most likely look unnatural unless you revise it extensively. I found it pretty useless.

This book has a very detailed plan for a single style of door and two pictures of a smaller style door without any details. It is great if you want to copy exactly what the author did, but very skimpy on details if you need/want to modify the design. Maybe on the next version the author could include other variations of the design or the math formulas so someone can more easily adjust the dimensions.

Bought this basically for detailed instructions as to how to hang a hidden door. Does not give any details as to how to place the hinges. In my opinion, the book itself is mediocre as to the building of the door itself even Completely disappointed in what I thought I was getting in the book. Would not recommend purchasing it.

Birthday present for a guy who’s building a house. He loves it!
