I think this is a discontinued item.
No real instructions were included in the packaging. Had to go to Welch allyn to get the manual. It works as described.

Works well & accurate
We upgraded to this after buying multiple thermometers that all ended up inaccurate after a few months. This has stayed consistent so far and is easy to use.

Temps you can count on!
Rather than risk not knowing the true temps to determine fevers, I purchased this hospital grade Welch-Allen thermometer. At first, I was disappointed to spend $243 because the temps for two different people were consistently lower than the standard 98.6 degrees. They were mostly around 97.4. I purchased a mercury thermometer to compare, and both readings were identical. However, the mercury unit takes several minutes vs. one second. I then compared it with a $120 kitchen thermometer with the tip placed under the tongue. Again, the result readings were identical. For complete confidence, the Welch-Allen is well worth the cost of knowing and getting very rapid, accurate temps!

Accurate
I easily spent the cost of this thermometer (or more) in multiple digital thermometer purchases, trying to find an accurate one that I could trust.I gave up and bought this one, hoping it would be accurate. It is.I give four stars instead of five because once in a while, it gives an off reading. It may be I do not always have it in the correct position, though I do strive to be consistent. So I always take two or three measurements and compare. Usually they are the same or very very close to each other, with only the occasional off reading.
