45 minutes, easy assembly, heavy but good quality!
I read a lot of reviews so I was a little reluctant on the purchase of this king sized white headboard. However, I am 100% satisfied with the product so I thought I would share my experience. Shipping was faster than anticipated and thankfully no damage done in the process. All parts included and as described, as noted in other reviews no stickers explaining what was what but that was completely ok by me as it was very easy for me to figure out. This was much easier to put together than I thought it would be. It was also build a lot more sturdy and intuitively than others described. I do not think it will fall apart in the future and it could be disassembled if totally necessary. I do not own the matching bed frame that must be purchased separately. I have a homemade 3 drawer shelving unit with a piece of plywood holding up my king sized mattress. It's the purple mattress (don't recommend it but stuck with it) no box spring, sits a bit lower than most beds. This headboard was the perfect height for my situation, I could see others saying its a bit short but my biggest fear, the front board behind the pillow line was safe, it is long enough to keep pillows from falling through the back. That would have ticked me off and I would have had to add some white board below to remedy the prob. The shelfs are slightly weird for the size items I want to store but I am satisfied with them regardless as I have wanted shelfs behind the bed for YEARS now. I even drilled to holes into the bottom of the shelf, one on left and one on right side just big enough for an extension cord, now hubby and I both have power strips for chargers and such. Kudos to the guy who installed an actually power outlet/ box into the unit. I aspire to be that savvy someday. Wood is thick and though its laminate it has a nice finish. Top piece of molding makes it look sharp and not cheap. I do have base boards but mine didn't really get in the way of the headboard against the wall. I liked someones suggestion of using some felt pads to balance out the issue if it was to arise. It took me and my hubs a whopping 45 minutes to put this together! Not bad when I had read others spent up to three hours... not sure how that would even be possible but very happy it was a simple and enjoyable project for us. Directions are lacking in detail but if you have done similar projects I say follow your instincts and be sure to examine what pieces go where prior to assembling. Remember you are building it rough edge up. And that the top of the long piece for the head board as well as the two side pieces will be covered once you add molding at the final steps. I read the entire directions prior to starting and that made the project more clear. Good luck!

Nice Addition to my Bedroom Decor
I love this headboard! It was sooooo easy to assemble; it was put together by my granddaughter's boyfriend in under an hour! The price was very reasonable, as well. I love that it is free-standing and I don't need to worry that it's going to tip over. I do wish it was just a few inches taller but that's my own fault; I placed bed risers under my bed to raise the height so I could use the space underneath the bed for storage. I may use some of the risers under the headboard, as well. That would take care of the problem! What a brilliant idea; I just thought of it while I was typing this review! It's a really nice piece and practical for putting my book on when closing it to go to sleep, and keeping cherished little items on it, as well.

Great Price and Value, IF You Are patient and Careful!
I purchased this after carefully researching Amazon Reviews and Q&A and measuring my bed and spaces and by taking that step. I can say this is a good value for your money, if you exert some patience and discipline before you let your trigger finger go on the one click sale. Given the free shipping, convenience, and price, it is a good deal IF you are careful. The very first thing I noticed when it arrived is that it is VERY HEAVY. Before the UPS driver left, I examine the packaging for immediate signs of damage. This is not solid wood. It is pressed particle board, so if there is even a little bit of damage to the box, you can bet before you even open it there may be problems inside the box. Examine it before opening, because a return will be far easier if you report it as damaged packaging and ask for a UPS pick-up and replacement, unless you have two strong backs, a pick-up truck, and a nearby UPS drop off.Next, take a moment to save yourself some frustration. I learned from the reviews and Q&A that the most frustrating part of the instructions is that the individual pieces and hardware are not labeled, even though the instructions describe parts as H1 or T2 etc. So, I took a breath and made sure where I wanted to build this and how hard would it be squeeze it in behind the bed. To clarify, I have a new Sleep Number Flex King bed. Since I spent over $6,000 on the bed, I wasn't going to drop another $2K for a fabric plain backboard that did not even provide you with a shelf or cubby, just to have an "official" Sleep Number Headboard. I did all the measuring and figured out it was best to do this:1) Label the individual pieces with Post-It notes as you open the box and sort.2) If like me, you don't have much room in your bedroom for assembly (you need room for shoulders and elbows as you will be screwing and nailing things in at odd angles, consider a two or three stage construction, before the thing becomes to heavy and cumbersome to navigate hallways, corners, and door etc. Having a spacious work area will get rid of much of your frustration before it even arises. For instance, in my case, I did the larger frame in my living room, then carried that into the bedroom and laid it on the bed to do the top shelf, back panel, and molding, so that I could then just slide it behind the bed.3) It is particle board. Do not assemble in your house on a wet or humid day with all the windows open. This sounds like being overcautious, but exposed particle board it VERY susceptible air moisture which may lead to the crumbling and warping, even during the brief time you are putting it together. With that said, also remember to tighten by rotation and check and double check that you have seated the pieces correctly before fully nailing or screwing them together--especially if you decide to use carpenter's glue at joints, because while pressed wood is a great price, and looks fine when put together, IT IS NOT FORGIVING. Particle board will crumble if you constantly set and reset fixtures. Go slow, and be certain, and you will be fine. Rush it, fail to make sure you have everything lined up before you power drive it together, and I can can guarantee any pressed wood project will make a southern baptist curse like an angry sailor.4) You will need help. Choose the help wisely. One person should be in charge, the other is the holder and spotter. By spotter, I mean you add the third check to make sure you have the right piece in the right place and facing the correct direction. In other words if you and your wife don't work well as a team know that gong in. See I know my place, she is the engineer I am an retired English teacher. I hold and spot and have no problem with that. So if you are thinking of purchasing this to save a few hundred bucks (and you can) you might lose all that saved money to marriage counseling if you do not know your place and position in the team.5) Go slow. This isn't a race. Don't pay attention to other reviewers time estimates. If getting it done right the first time matters, who cares if it takes you an hour longer than others. We just finished assembling ours ten minutes ago, so I am writing this fresh of the experience to hopefully save other people any problems by posting this as fresh as possible. Not that it matters, but it took us just under 150 minutes (we have 5 master's degrees between us) but after we both read the reviews and Q&A we were very deliberate in the process. I am proud to say, we had to only retract one screw during the entire process. I could feel the particle board giving way to a crumble just on that one piece, so I can only imagine what folks trying to break some speed goal might go through if they have to constantly reverse and reset screws or dowels.Once assembled and in place, it is wonderful. Please note, if you have things with cords you plan on putting anywhere other than on the top shelf you do not have and pre-drilled wire holes. I do not suggest you put any into the rear veneer either. It is fine as a cosmetic backing, but I don't see the thin material standing up to friction of cords etc. That was fine for us. We put the wired things on the top shelf, and used all the cubby holes for books, remotes, etc.So, great price, and product, if you can avoid the user error problems in advance!
