A good book but hard to understand as a beginner

Helped my granddaughter with learning her music

I think this book is pretty good. I had piano lessons as a child which helped quite a bit when reading this. Having a few piano lessons or access to one or keyboard would go well with this book. This book is worth it and his music theory book also is very good.

It was a gift

Bought this book to learn the basics of note reading. Started the 1st chapter and already determined this book was not written for beginners, as stated. The author starts out with terminology I've never heard and yet doesn't define it. I had to google it. He also refers to images that are not found (ex "see figure 1.1.2", but there is no figure 1.1.2). He talks about the elements of a staff and it would have been helpful to have an image of a staff with that element depicted (ex. Key signature, time signature, etc.)A book for "Beginners" should be just that...start with the basics.Hopefully the rest of the book will get better as I continue.

Excellent for beginners and advanced

After a couple of weeks, I just finished this book. This is a good book for beginners. Not too overwhelming, but enough to get you started. I look forward to moving on to the Music Theory book by this author.
