Excellent reference for handling healthcare data
This is a terrific book, covering pretty much every aspect of handling healthcare data. It has good advice, links, solutions, and information, and is immensely valuable.

Great hope for a 2nd edition ....
I started a job as a health care data scientist 6 months ago and bought this book during the interview process. Every few months I pick this book up gain to see if it's become useful now that I know more about the healtchare space. There's tons of promise for a 2nd edition but I cannot recommend in its current form.

Insightful and thought provoking
One of the author's objectives for this book is to bridge the knowledge gap between the data science and healthcare data domain, and vice versa. This is the case for me and precisely why I purchased this book. Perfect for those who seek knowledge about the nuances and complexity of healthcare data and what "normalization" means in this domain.

Disappointing
I was hopeful about this book since I thought it would review concepts and ideas in healthcare data implementation in detail, or propose new ones. Unfortunately Hand-On Healthcare Data did neither, keeping the content at an elementary level for anyone who's seen a patient chart before, and stopping far short of any practical implementation (and even further from taming such data). This is a well-intentioned book but ultimately disappointing to read.
