The best out there!
Been following Justin for years online, youtube and his website. He's a great teacher, very easy to follow and understand. This book ticks all the boxes, simple songs to learn, everything is explained perfectly. The fact that it's spiral bound is a big bonus.

Best learning book I've been able to find.
This is a great book and has helped tremendously with my learning beginner guitar. Chapters are divided up such that you learn a few chords each time and can apply them to various popular songs. The author posts most song lessons on youtube, which helps pick up tips by seeing/hearing a song, rather than just reading the instructions. The songs get more complicated (naturally) as the lessons go on and it makes for a great, gradual way to learn.Would've been 5 stars but a few of the songs aren't available on youtube. It's a bit of a harsh critic given then hours of his work you can find online and easy usability of the book but it's something that bothered me a bit.

Excellent learning aid for beginners
Having searched online for good basic guitar lessons and easy songs I finally stumbled across the YouTube channel for justinguitar. Exactly what I needed.Justin provides step by step guides for beginners and more advanced guitarists to improve their guitar playing. As a total novice I found his videos an excellent starting point for making attempts at some of my favourite songs.I then discovered his book to accompany his YouTube videos. The book I think is excellent value. For under £16 you get a detailed breakdown of around 100 songs including guides for strumming patterns and advice from Justin. A great addition to the YouTube videos and using both makes learning much simpler. Book van be used on its own for practice and playing. The ring binding also makes keeping the book open at each song so easy compared with some other song books.Check out the song listing on his site. Plenty of well known classics and all are ordered in terms of difficulty giving you something to work towards. An excellent book and I will certainly order some of the others from his range. Highly recommended.

Music To My Ears!
I have been 'playing' guitar for years on and off and I play the same things over and over again with mixed results. The book is the perfect size at A5 and it is spiral bound so very easy to view, unlike my other guitar tab books that constantly need a good bend to keep in place. There are plenty of great songs to learn and any strumming pattern or song I am not sure about is on his YouTube channel, so a great purchase. The songs can be played with simple chords or variations with finger picking or more complex strumming so wonderful for beginners and more intermediate players. One of the guitar books that will take pride of place unlike the others stacked up gathering dust.My favourites are Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton, Fast Car by Tracey Chapman, Vincent by Don McLean, The Drugs Don't Work by The Verve and loads of the others.Well chuffed. Thank you.

Buy this book and its Theory companion... don't give it a second though
I've tried on and off to learn the guitar for about 12 years now. I've never been keen on lessons, they don't fit round my lifestyle well at all. I have tried guitar tuition books before, and they tend to come in one of two forms:-1 - Theory, notes and chords. Quite dry, not too inspiring.2 - A series of songs with 'easy play' tabs and chord symbols. This works even less well than the first. You might learn to play one song well, but its not then related to the next, so there's no progression or anything. Also, you'll probably find that technically you aren't even that good at the song you've just learned.Anyway, the two methods mentioned above made me give up more than a few times. The Justinguitar.com Beginners Guitar Course and Beginners Songbook are linked. I'd suggest you buy both if you are going to buy either, because they are pointless without the other. Individually them they kind of encompass the two kinds of book I mentioned above (but in the best way I've ever seen), but together they form a well paced and structured set of lessons with theory and songs built to help you progress at a fast but steady pace, which coupled with Justins excellent website telling you how to do things and helpfully showing you what is right and wrong.... well its the furthest I've ever come to getting somewhere with a guitar! I'm amazed and excited and so enthusiastic to complete the course (I'm only on chapter 4, but in two months I already play better than I have ever managed in 12 years. This is the beginning of a full course, and accompanied by a brilliant website. It's the best way I can imagine you'd ever learn to play the guitar... just do it, buy them both.

top notch for learning guitar
Justin is the man, been following him on you tube for a while now and so decided to buy his beginners songbook vol 1, straight away with the help of his you tube tutorials my guitar playing and practice has improved, I am once again looking forward to my practice everyday, the books are well set out with notes and chord diagrams for you to progress, the songs are progressive and you gradually improve as you go along, I also like the fact that this version of the book comes spiral bound great for laying open on your music stand, he only puts the chords into the first verse and chorus, after that you are on your own, some find this harder but you do get used to it, I've been really impressed with volume 1 that I have ordered volume 2 as well, well worth the cost and for less than the price of one private lesson, great value
