This EQ Needs Refining
The media could not be loaded. I haven’t had a standalone EQ in several years, so I was anxiously anticipating really good sound from the Newtry EQ. It is a 31 band equalizer that has several nice features. It has a gain control knob, a WIDE band of equalization, and the ability to create AND SAVE several EQ settings for fairly quick recall. Because of the layout, if done correctly, it does take a while to properly adjust the individual settings of the EQ. Here are some issues I want to go over that I think needs to be refined:I was caught off guard when after connecting the unit, I noticed that I lost some db (volume level) after connecting the EQ. This is NOT a deal breaker for me because my amplifier has a lot of headroom.STATIC!!! The noise produced by this EQ when there is little to no volume is not loud, but it is annoying when you like absolute clarity from your system. The static is unacceptable. The EQ does its job with clarifying your sound, but the static brings unwanted noise! This is taking two steps forward and one back! If you are listening to music, it is imperceptible; however, if you are listing to tv at low level, you can easily hear it. I’m not sure if I received a faulty unit, but this is my experience. To be sure it wasn’t my amplifier, I disconnected the EQ and ran just the receiver and amplifier. There was absolutely no noise. Although the cables I used for the EQ are new pro cables, I got another set of shielded, new XLR cables but had the same results, noise. This tells me that it is definitely the EQ. I really wanted to give a better review, but in all honesty I can’t with the static this unit produces in my system. I may have to shut it off unless I am playing music, which is unacceptable.*UPDATE*The noise from this EQ became so annoying and loud that I had to disconnect it. I bought another brand I was familiar with and have had no problems. I discarded this noisy EQ and can not in good faith recommend it.
