Small inside
There's a lot less space inside than you might think. This is because the keypad mechanism is large and takes-up a lot of space when the keysafe is closed. We struggle to get more than a couple of keys in, which is a pain because we need to store a key fob with several outdoor keys.Other than that, this is a solid and well-built unit. I fitted one for my elderly mother a year or so ago. That one was £5 more expensive because it was branded for a disability aids company, but is the exact same product even with the same "Defender" branding once the item is out of the box.I tried picking it but I couldn't. I can't feel any play in the buttons or release catch, for example, as you can with combination locks and which makes them so easy to pick. Nor could you slide in anything between the top of the door and the latch to get it open. Well, maybe a locksmith has something suitably thin and strong, but your average smash-and-grab burglar isn't going to.I'm not saying these devices are impossible to get into without the code. It's just that I don't know how to, from obvious attempts.Ours is mounted indoors. My mother's is mounted outside her front door for visiting carers to use, and the clasp for the rubber case broke off almost instantly. However, the rubber cover can still be put in place thanks to accidental friction fitting. WIth the rubber case on it looks like an electrical fuse box, or similar. In fact I got a call recently from the carer company suggesting I fit a key safe for my mother, and i had to point out that one was already there. They just didn't see it.

Very sturdy and spacious - thoroughly recommended
I wanted a key lock that had room for a key fob as well as a key and this fitted the bill. It's strong, quite heavy (which is good) and is suitably spacious inside - including a little hook to hang keys on.A black plastic / rubber cover disguises what it is making the whole unit anonymous. In my view, that's an excellent security feature. I also mounted mine in an obscured position. It looks like an electrical junction box.The numbers to open the unit are large, press easily and it's obvious that they are pressed because they stay down. They're not at all fiddly and for instance would be easy to open in the dark. One point to note. The 4-6 numbers of your chosen combination can be pressed in any order thus reducing the total number of possible numbers. However I don't think that's a serious issue. The unit can be secured to the wall easily. I chose to mount on wood as the nearby masonry wall is so uneven that one couldn't get a flush finish. I am satisfied that it's secure.Overall an excellent product - thoroughly recommended.

Much cheaper than a locksmith
The Defender key safe is a simple lock box. It feels robust; it would certainly put off an opportunist thief from trying to open it up, although I'd have reservations about it keeping out a determined intruder. The thing is with determined intruders is you've probably got something they really want (such as a valuable vehicle or expensive jewellery), and they'll get it whatever you put in their way. It's my view that if somebody wants something I have, I'd rather they took it when my family and I aren't in the house, so I'm not overly concerned that a determined "pro" might be able to get inside the lock box. The benefits easily outweigh any perception of increased risk of having a door key stored in plain sight, especially for those with latch locks that automatically lock behind you. What's that, a parcel? Slam! Whoops...Setting the access key was easy, as was installing. However, it's not pretty, so think about where you might want to install it.

Very simple installation
Very nice product and simple to install. Plus points are the ease of installation; use - the buttons stay depressed rather than some designs where you’re never sure if it was pressed or not.Small negative is that the weather shield I’d very awkward to open/close the first few times.I would recommend this product.

Very substantial
ordered this for my parents house as it is a requirement of visiting carers. there are many cheaper option but this seemed a good option. heavy item made of good quality heavy materials, simple instruction on how to use and supplied with fitting screws, however i did supply my own wall plugs etc. fitted to solid brick wall in 10-15 minutes and ready to go. i installed in a small porch area so waterproof was not required i would say it may struggle in heavy rain but does have a plastic cover which clips shout to isolate the unit and protect keypad.

Wont OPEN after just 48 hours!!!!
After testing that the safe door locks and unlocks before installing, and having a day of usage, it only took 2 days before the lock failed. Now I have a set of keys stuck in the safe!!!Now considering this safe is bolted to a brick wall using four 2 inch self-tapping bolts, as supplied and instructed, this is the response when I reached out to Defender for assistance:Customer service response 1 = "Please arrange a return with Amazon"Customer service response 2 = "Please post it to us for inspection but don't damage the door"Customer service response 3 = "Just tap gently to remove from the wall and use a grinder to cut away "......Speechless!Let this serve as a warning. STAY AWAY unless you want to risk the very big inconvenience of this breaking when you really need it.
