Worked like a charm!
I installed this card to turn my EeePC 1000HA netbook with an Atom N270 1.6GHz / 2GB DDR2 into a NAS using Nas4Free (FreeBSD) and attaching a two HDD Raid 0 (ProDUO) external drive to this card using a Sata to eSata Cable. The only catch I had was I needed to enable the HDD in my BIOs.I currently have a bottle neck, but it's my NIC or my RAID controler, I need to toy with my MTU size. 1500 has me at 12mb/s with ~35% CPU usage. At stock MTU I was doing 70% CPU 6mb/s and I was flooding my NIC.Internal read speed is 105MB/s using dd. (12mb/s)If all goes well, when you boot up your device, you should see a prompt during POST stating the card has been recognized and what Sata port your HDD is plugged into. Also worth noting to make sure you enabled the Mini PCI-Express slot the card is in! (Mine was my wireless)I'm currently in the process of writing up a guide for this card and Nas4Free.

Works pretty nice for adding in an extra HDD or two
Recently bought an ATX sized motherboard from MSI that somehow only had two working sata III ports and I had used this to allow me to actually use the other two HDDs that I had my music and data on.

Did not work in my HP Touchsmart with Win 8.1
Put in the cardand an ssd - no problem.Booted up.Got the post screen from the card showing the ssd attachedThen, the video went all wierd. the HP Post screen displayed as a small box in a sea of garbled and torn video.Win would not recognize that any partitions were bootable or had a Win installation.Repair failed.Removed the card and plugged the ssd into the motherboard sata.Success.It came with a disc but it is of no use for fundamental problems like this.

Works well in mini-itx build.
The card itself is plug and play I did not use the drivers included but had to work around a conflict with the onboard motherboard sata ports being disabled when this card is installed.

Great product, for it's niche and price
This is a great product and method -- especially for the price -- for expanding a motherboard with limited SATA availability. Speeds are quite high and in my experience bounded by a slower server HDD's rotational speed.I was a little apprehensive about this as I've heard mixed results on the Intel D525 platform with regards to compatibility, but I've experienced a clean installation with drivers built in under Fedora 21 and Ubuntu.

Manufacturer said it would fit in many laptops, however...
It did not fit in my laptop. It's not like I have a small laptop either. I have the Alienware M17x R4, which is a HUGE laptop.I really need something like this but it just didn't seem like it would able to fit. However, I took the manufacturer's word and ordered it anyway.Amazon seems to have taken down their image upload feature, so here are some links to this product installed inside my laptop:i.imgur(dot)com/OOhpyak.jpg - They recommended using an L shaped SATA cable but that is still too tall to fit into my laptopi.imgur(dot)com/4SXX4FB.jpg - Here it is with the SATA plug sticking outi.imgur(dot)com/I6qBvGA.jpgi.imgur(dot)com/WE7T0Zv.jpgYou can clearly see that the SATA ports are way too tall to fit in my laptop. I really doubt this will fit in any laptops after seeing it in person.Good thing Amazon has a good return policy. I returned this item.I gave it 2 stars because there is a need for products like this, but please make sure that it REALLY DOES FIT inside laptops before telling your customer service people to tell customers that it does.

Syba and the Intel D525MW
I purchased two of these, one in 2013 and another in 2015 and I will purchase two more. I'm using the card in an Intel D525MW motherboard to provide two additional SATA ports. This motherboard is problematic with PCIe mini cards apparently. It doesn't recognize certain cards including this out of the box Syba.https://communities.intel.com/thread/24326In the thread above for a different SATA controller a workaround was provided. I contacted Syba USA and obtained a warranty return on one card even though I expect this product is not to blame. I later discovered the post above. The Syba card has provision on it for pulling pin 7 on the bus low by connecting it to pin 9. There is an unpopulated resister on the Syba card and taught myself how to do board level surface mount rework :-/. In the R58 location near the edge connector you place a 100 ohm resistor. This connects GND to Pin 7. Then the D525MW board will recognize the card and all is well. Not an ideal situation but I think this is an Intel issue not a Syba issue and the good support people at Syba USA told me they would honor the warranty still! That's pretty nice customer service thus the 5 stars. In addition this card has a 3yr warranty so how can you go wrong at this price.YMMV

Fast, simple controller that works well
Simple device, has a fast controller. I use it in Linux for software raid / ZFS. No driver needed, the additional controller just showed up where it should, on reboot. Recent vintage Linux, Kernel v3.1. I assume the driver was built into the Linux kernel already so nothing to install.Controller speed is faster than the hard disks I have plugged into it, per specs 6Gbit/sec interface - faster than any hard disk I have so more than enough for me. Haven't tried with an SSD.
