Good demonstration model
It readily demonstrates that AC and DC can be brought out of a coil rotating in a magnetic field depending on how we connect to it. (Commutator or slip rings). It is a little fragile for young students though.

Great learning tool
I use this at work as training tool. You can remove the LEDs and using banana plugs you can connect an oscilloscope to the AC and DC terminals. Helps to show relationship between speed and voltage magnitude/frequency.Very satisfied

The hand crank broke within first day of using it. The rest of the device appeared to work reasonable well and great for science experiments. It would be five stars if the hand crank did not break (i was able to fix it with cement clue, but not happy)

Can't really speak for the product itself as I couldn't test it since it arrived broken (bought through someone who fulfilled through Amazon), but I've done some research trying to find these demos and this one seemed like a good one. Honestly, though, I'm not convinced that the quality issues here don't make American Educational 7-1853 DC Crank Generator, 6-1/2" Length x 2-1/2" Width x 4-1/2" Height a better option (those are much louder than the other demonstration generator that we have).The base was relatively solid, but the plastic seemed especially brittle. I can't speak to its functionality because mine arrived broken. Also purchased Hand Cranked AC/DC Generator Demonstration Kit, which arrived looking old and used, but still solid and functional. The wires on the non-EISCO one are easier to get to if repairs become necessary, though I honestly like the magnet construction piece of the EISCO one better (the only reason the science supply solutions one has N-S colors on it is because it has a blue/red sticker over the magnet).Honestly, I almost prefer the ones that you get to build yourself (and then use subsequently as demos) - there's a generator pack from Vernier or an "alternator kit" through Educational Innovations that I'm aware of. The downside is that there is not a built-in gear/pulley system to increase torque on the generator, so they may not be as easy to get the lights to work.

looked very nice. However
Was excited when I first received, looked very nice. However, with use the very fine wires on the stator broke loose from the brush contact ring so it now only works to produce DC voltage. Will attempt to re-solder the wire. Does make a very good hands on, experiment on how a Generator works. I was disappointed on the amount of voltage it produced. I also purchased the Motor and hoped I could create enough electricity to operate the motor, but it does not.
